As dentists we like to preserve natural teeth, but there are times when teeth need to be removed. Gum disease, infection or not enough tooth structure are some of the reasons that teeth need to be removed. Also, wisdom teeth may need to be removed if there is not enough room or infection results. Most extractions can be done here in the office with local anesthetic and if you wish nitrous oxide. Teeth that are impacted or more difficult are often referred to a specialist called an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. An oral surgeon has undergone more advanced training to handle more difficult situations and can offer deep sedation or general anesthesia during the procedure.
After a tooth is removed you will be given specific post operative instructions. Please follow these instructions carefully as it will make the recovery process shorter and prevent complications. If any complications do arise please call our office right away.
